Typically, the phrases 'multinational enterprise' and 'foreign direct investment' have been considered as synonymous but it is more appropriate to see the relationship as follows: multinational enterprises make foreign direct investments - and carry on other tasks as well. The investments, the capital flows, are only part of the activities of a multinational enterprise. These companies must have a business association with the foreign operations. ....
